The method · the Schenecker case
How this show is made
Everything in an episode comes from a document. This page says which documents, and what the show will not do. You do not need any of it to listen.
Every line has a source
Each paragraph of narration cites a specific record — a police report, a court order, an inmate file, an obituary, a news report from the week it happened. The tool that builds the audio will not render a paragraph without one.
Every one of those documents has its own page: what it is, where to read it, and which episodes rest on it.
The transcript is the script
Most shows run speech recognition over their finished audio and publish something slightly wrong. Ours is the script the narrator read, with the measured start time of every paragraph — word-perfect, to the second.
The voices are not real
The voices in this podcast are not real, and have been simulated to allow us to tell the story and to protect the real people within it.
They are not impersonations of the people quoted, and they are never used for a child involved in a crime or a trial.
What this show will not do
No loaded adjectives. No speculation about what a living person was thinking. No reconstructed dialogue, and no scene the record does not support. Where two records disagree, you get both. Where the record is silent, the episode says so and stops.
Corrections
If a line is wrong, write to hello@leastsuspected.com with the episode and the timestamp. Corrections are made to the transcript and noted on the episode page.
Who makes it
One person, under the name Owen Brandt.
