By every account, the Scheneckers were a strong family. Military parents, a cross country runner and a soccer player, ties to the community, and a long road ahead of them. Until one day it was cut short from within.
On 27 January 2011, Julie Schenecker shot and killed her two children, Calyx, 16, and Beau, 13, in Tampa, Florida, while their father, Parker, was deployed overseas with the Army. In May 2014 a jury found her guilty of two counts of first-degree murder. She is serving life without parole.
